It’s been a rough couple of months for basketball fans. The NBA suspended its season, and March Madness was canceled.

Well, if you’re itching to see great basketball players compete against one another, you’re in luck. Sixteen NBA players, including Kevin Durant and Trae Young, are participating in an NBA2K Tournament on ESPN and ESPN2 on Friday.

“We all know that we haven’t been able to have basketball,” 2K Sports VP Jason Argent said on JR SportBrief. “None of us – not fans, not the NBA, the league. And so, the NBA and 2K and the NBA Players Association have been trying to figure out a way we can bring basketball back to the fans with everything that’s going on in the world. We wanted to do that in a way that obviously delivers the product in a great way but also did something that was contributing and helping with the coronavirus outbreak and everything that’s going on and supporting those people that are suffering. Between us and the players, who are dying for some competition, we put this together in a fairly short amount of time, and I think it’s going to be pretty awesome.”

Donovan Mitchell, Devin Booker, Andre Drummond, and Zach LaVine, among others, are also participating in the tournament, which begins at 7:30 p.m. ET. The winner will receive $100,000 from the NBA, NBA2K, and the Players Association to give to a charity of his choice to support coronavirus relief efforts.

“We’re excited to deliver the NBA product to [fans],” Argent said. “Even if you haven’t played NBA2K, I think they’re going to be thrilled to watch their NBA players, their heroes, play NBA. They’re going to be playing a game that they play every day, albeit in a different way. The one thing that excites a lot of us is watching these players interact with each other in a competitive way. We don’t get as much of that watching an NBA game on TV. I think that’s one of the fun parts here. Not only are they competing against each other, which they’ve been dying to do, but also listening to them talk and interact with each other while they’re playing is going to be something that even people that haven’t played NBA2K are going to be quite thrilled with.”
