Barber: Haskins Looked Lost; Redskins Have No Plan

Dwayne Haskins' preseason debut wasn't pretty

Dwayne Haskins had a rough preseason debut against the Browns last Thursday. He finished 8-of-14 for 117 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions, as Washington lost 30-10.

It was only one game, sure, but for Tiki Barber, it was telling.

“They have the talent, but they’re stuck at quarterback,” Barber said of the Redskins on Tiki & Tierney. “They have a decision to make – and it’s not an easy one to make. The Redskins think that they can compete this year. If they go with Dwayne Haskins, he’s going to struggle. We saw it (in the first preseason game). This was as simple as it comes from defensive coverages, and he couldn’t read them, and he threw two interceptions, and he looked lost out there.”

Will that change significantly in the coming weeks? Unlikely, Barber says.

“Dwayne Haskins, if he’s forced to play like we want rookies to play, is going to be crushed,” Barber said. “His emotions are going to be crushed. His confidence is going to be crushed. But the Redskins have to make this choice: Are we going to go with Dwayne Haskins and rebuild – even though we know that we’re set to compete right now? Or are we going to throw in Colt McCoy or Case Keenum – stop-gaps for a year?”

The Redskins have missed the playoffs in five of the last six seasons. They have finished between 7-9 and 9-7 four years in a row.

“The Redskins, as great as their plans seem to always be, I feel like they don’t actually have a plan,” Barber said.
