Steelers running back James Conner had an incredible season last year. He had 1,470 total yards – 973 rushing, 497 receiving – and 13 touchdowns.

The most impressive thing? He did that in just 12 starts.

“I missed three games,” Conner told Bill Reiter. “I would have had well over 1,000 (rushing) yards, but it’s no good to talk about what you would have done. Things are going to happen.”

Conner, 24, earned himself a spot on the NFL’s Top 100 players list, which will be unveiled July 22. Wherever he ranks, Conner likely would have been higher if he hadn’t gotten hurt.

“The Top 100, though, is an honor in and of itself,” Conner said. “Just being an NFL football player, it’s what we do and I’m used to it now, but it’s still a blessing every day. I always think of it like that. No matter where I’m at on the list, I’m going to be thankful for it – even if I’m 100.”

The Steelers open the season against the Patriots in Foxboro on Sunday Night Football on Sept. 8. Pittsburgh went 9-6-1 last season, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
