Steve Kerr is seeking his fourth NBA title in five seasons. The one year the Warriors didn’t win the title? Yeah, they won an NBA-record 73 games.

Is it fair to compare Kerr to all-time greats such as Phil Jackson, Gregg Popovich and Pat Riley? Has he reached that status?

“Of course you have to consider him and put him in that league,” Warriors legend and Hall-of-Famer Rick Barry said on Reiter Than You. “What he’s done, I don’t think anybody has ever been done it before and had the success that he’s had coming into the league. I was incredibly impressed with him because they finally got back to having these mics in the huddle, which they eliminated after out 1975 championship series because it wound up costing KC Jones his job. What (Kerr) says, the demeanor that he had, the calmness in his voice, what he was actually saying to them – that’s how you can kind of evaluate it.

“Before that, you had to kind of guess,” Barry continued. “People say, ‘That was a bad shot out of that timeout.’ I say, ‘Yeah, but that doesn’t mean that’s what the coach designed.’ (Sometimes players) don’t do anything that the coach told them to do and you don’t know that. At least this way you have an opportunity to evaluate what the coach is telling you.”
