The Arizona Cardinals were going to take Kyler Murray No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft. Then they weren’t. Now we’re not sure what they’re going to do.

Ultimately, what happens Thursday night?

“I know one thing for sure: they’re only lying when their lips are moving,” CBS Sports Network college football analyst Randy Cross said on Taz & The Moose. “Probably 75 percent of the stories and rumors and so-called facts are coming out of their building. I don’t know. I believe they’re going to take Kyler Murray, but it’s incumbent on them (to create doubt). They wouldn’t be doing their job if they weren’t trying to gin up the market a little bit.”

While many, if not most, insiders believe Murray will go No. 1, Cross questions whether Murray is deserving of that honor.

“I’m sort of still undecided,” he said. “It’s not because of him or his talent. The guy throws with anticipation, he’s got a good arm – all the cliches in the world. My question is were we all this wrong about the hype that’s required to be a pro? Because if we were, there is no bottom on this. But there hasn’t been this many shorter (quarterbacks in the league at one time). Baker is not exactly tall, so this will mean you’ll have four (quarterbacks) in the NFL that are under 6-feet tall. That’s unprecedented. It just hasn’t happened. I just have a hesitation about that. (He’s) 5-10 and that may be being nice. God, that’s short for the NFL game. But if you play it effectively, people, they’ve sort of put that aside. I’m just not in that number that have put that aside.”

Murray may be the first player selected, but Cross believes that Alabama defensive lineman Quinnen Williams is the best player in the draft.

“My old team, I guess everybody’s got them taking Bosa at 2 after Murray goes at 1,” Cross said, referring to the 49ers. “I think you’ll regret it. I think you’re in a division with an Aaron Donald. If you get a chance to grab your kind of Aaron Donald, you got nobody to blame but yourself when you don’t have that sort of weapon in your arsenal next season.”
