Oscar De La Hoya dropped by CBS Sports Radio on Wednesday to discuss numerous topics, including his beef with UFC President Dana White.

Last year, De La Hoya argued that UFC underpays its fighters, and White responded with fury, questioning De La Hoya’s business savvy and integrity.

Why all the back-and-forth?

“I obviously wanted to get my feet wet and get involved in the MMA business, and obviously we know that Dana White and the UFC have a chokehold on that sector, on that business,” De La Hoya said on Tiki & Tierney. “Yes, he was a bully, but at the end of the day, I have no hard feelings for him. At the end of the day, I think he’s been doing a wonderful job at what he does, and I’m going to stay in my lane and do what I do. There’s room for both. There’s enough apples to pick from the tree so everybody can eat. They’ve been doing a wonderful job.”

De La Hoya said that boxing and mixed martial arts shouldn’t compete against one another. In fact, he thinks they should work together.

“We actually complement each other,” De La Hoya said. “UFC fans are curious to go across the street and check out boxing, and vice versa. I think there’s room enough for both of us, and we just have to support each other and continue growing our fan bases.”

De La Hoya said he didn’t take White’s comments personally.

“Business is business, and it’s ruthless,” he said. “But look, at the end of the day, I understand where he’s coming from. It’s fine. That’s his character. That’s who he is. At the end of the day, all I can say is there’s room for both of us and we should all just get along and grow our fan bases – because his fans are eventually going to become boxing fans, and boxing fans are eventually going to be UFC fans. We might as well work together.”

De La Hoya also discussed a potential Canelo/GGG trilogy, as well as the upcoming Canelo/Jacobs match. Alvarez will fight Daniel Jacobs this Saturday, May 4, at 9 p.m. ET on DAZN. Click below to listen to De La Hoya's interview in its entirety.
