A few weeks ago, Yahoo Sports NFL writer Terez Paylor visited the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp.

A lot, of course, has changed since then.

“I visited about two-and-a-half weeks ago before we knew Andrew Luck was going to retire,” Paylor said on Reiter Than You, “but I’d heard enough while talking to people there that I decided I wanted to talk to Jacoby Brissett just in case they were going to lean on him this year. I kind of got a sense that he might end up playing – certainly not to this extent, but that he’d be playing.”

In his story, Paylor called Brissett “a security blanket” for the Colts. The 26-year-old threw for 3,098 yards, 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2017.

“What I gathered from that trip is that this is a guy whose teammates love him,” Paylor said. “I thought it was interesting that the general manager, Chris Ballard, told me at the time that he has an ability to calm people and he has an ability to rally people around him. In retrospect, I thought that was interesting.”

Also interesting? Brissett, a third-round pick in 2016, is entering a contract year. If he plays the whole season, he could get big money in the offseason.

Ballard, however, isn’t thinking about that just yet.

“Ballard told me, ‘Let’s let things play out,’” Paylor recalled. “‘The one thing I don’t ever want to do is work in hypotheticals to where we’re writing the end of the story before the story has even started. I do think a lot of Jacoby Brissett and what he means for us.’ It’s an interesting quote, and now we’ll get to see why.”
