LeBron James joined the Los Angeles Lakers to win NBA titles and restore glory to one of the most iconic franchises in all of sport. After missing the playoffs in his first season out West, however, don’t be surprised if King James’ reign in L.A. is short-lived.

James reportedly could ask for a trade this offseason if the Lakers are unable to land another star in Los Angeles through free agency or a trade.

Would James actually do that? After just one season?

“It would not surprise me,” Antonio Daniels said on Reiter Than You. “I am not going to lie: it would not surprise me. At this point in your career, everyone is talking about, ‘LeBron James, he went to make movies. He went for TV.’ LeBron went to win. At this stage of your career, you’re not going anywhere just to make movies. You still love the game, you’re still passionate about the game, you are still in the conversation for greatest of all time – so that means you are playing for championships. You’re not just going out there just to play for the sake of playing.”

Well, that’s exactly what he’ll be doing if the Lakers don’t acquire Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis or some other star.

“If they strike out on free agency and strike out on acquiring somebody via trade, man, I’m not going to lie to you,” Daniels said. “That would not surprise me one bit if LeBron asked to be out and and moved to a better situation where he puts himself in a position to be back where he’s been, which is contending for NBA Finals.”
