Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving will reportedly sign with the New York Knicks this offseason, but should Knicks faithful buy that?

“I’m buying more Durant than Kyrie,” NBA Radio’s Mitch Lawrence said on Ferrall on the Bench. “There’s all this smoke about Durant, and it sounds like he’s coming to New York. His guy – Rich Kleiman – he’s telling people he’s going to come, but it’s obviously up to Durant. As for Kyrie, a lot could depend on what happens to the Celtics in the playoffs. We’ll see how far Kyrie takes them. I just don’t know if he’ll come into New York. He could stay in Boston and be in a better situation and be the No. 1 guy there.”

The Knicks have missed the playoffs in 14 of the last 18 seasons and haven’t achieved anything of note since reaching the Finals and Eastern Conference Finals in 1999 and 2000, respectively.

Nevertheless, they could sign two of the top players in the world in the same offseason.

“Just imagine: the Knicks have done nothing right for 20 years, and they could end up with Kevin Durant?” Lawrence said. “It’s incredible, isn’t it? That he would roll the dice and come to New York? I guess sometimes people do stupid things. I wouldn’t do it if I were him.”

If the Knicks are unable to sign Irving, they could make a run at Kemba Walker. Irving, though, would be their first choice – or at least should be.

“I’d rather get Kyrie,” Lawrence said. “Kemba is real good, don’t get me wrong. But Kyrie is a special offensive talent. He can close playoff games. We haven’t seen Kemba a lot in the postseason. I just think he’s bigger and he’s better. As long as Kyrie’s knee is healthy, I’m taking Kyrie.”
