The New York Yankees have been ravaged by injuries this season, but you wouldn’t know it based on the standings. The Yankees (44-27) have the fifth-best record in baseball and lead Tampa Bay (43-29) and Boston (40-34) by 1.5 and 5.5 games, respectively, in the AL East.

“(Injuries) happen,” Yankees legend Mariano Rivera told Bill Reiter. “Unfortunately, everything happened at the same time. But what I like is all those guys that have been called up to the big leagues have been doing a tremendous job. They look like they haven’t lost a beat. The whole team is there.”

The Yankees have hit 113 home runs – sixth-most in baseball – despite being without Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge for most of the season.

“Yes, we have a lot of injuries, but it doesn’t look like it because those guys have been doing a tremendous job,” Rivera said. “They’re giving an opportunity to the players to rehab, take their time, and make sure when they come back they’re 100 percent. There’s no urgency to come back right away because the guys are doing a tremendous job.”
