The Atlanta Falcons had as bad of a season-opener as you could imagine – or close to it. They trailed the Vikings 28-0 through three quarters and didn’t find the end zone until garbage time in a 28-12 loss.

Well, they certainly redeemed themselves Sunday night.

The Falcons beat the Eagles, 24-20, thanks to a 54-yard touchdown reception by Julio Jones with just over two minutes to play. Jones finished with five catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns.

“They had to come up with a defensive stop late and were able to get the late touchdown,” Falcons reporter D. Orlando Ledbetter said on After Hours with Amy Lawrence. “The team just didn’t show up for their first game against Minnesota and then had to go to battle today against the Eagles. So we at least know that the team has a pulse moving forward and that they’ll fight when backed into a corner.”

The Falcons (1-1) will need that type of resolve over the next month. They play three of their next four games on the road, beginning with a Week 3 matchup against the Colts (1-1) in Indianapolis. Sunday’s kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
