Adam Gase isn’t even halfway through his first season with the Jets (1-6), so its probably not fair to say he’s on the hot seat.

But he needs to start winning games. Fast.

“I think this is obviously going to be a pivotal second half for him,” CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora said on Tiki & Tierney. “The reality for that team always was – and I’m not excusing anything that happened in the first half there in terms of on-field problems, and obviously there’s been a new drama every week – but they faced a gauntlet early, and then they should be a team that is ascending and finishes strong. They still have the chance to do that. Do I think the odds are high of it right now? No. But they’re not going to fire him now.”

The Jets started 0-4 with losses to the Bills, Brows, Patriots and Eagles. They beat the Cowboys 24-22 in Week 6 but have since dropped back-to-back games to the Patriots and Jaguars.

The Jets’ next three opponents – Dolphins (0-7), Giants (2-6) and Redskins (1-7) – are a combined 3-20.

“He’s got a second half of the year to see what he can do if there’s a healthy Darnold for some period of time – more than a week or two,” La Canfora said of Gase. “Can that offense evolve and emerge? Do they find a way to get the ball to Le’Veon Bell, which I don’t think should be all that hard to do? And then obviously Woody and Chris Johnson are going to have some things to think about in January one way or the other. I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion by any stretch, but I think they better reverse some trends there really quickly.”
