After erupting for 10 catches for 141 yards in a 13-3 win over the Rams on Sunday, Julian Edelman was named Super Bowl LIII MVP.

Edelman taking home the hardware was hardly a surprise. The surprise came, however, when various fans and analysts claimed that Edelman had played his way into Canton.

Is Edelman worthy of the Hall of Fame?

“I don’t really know what a Hall-of-Famer is,” two-time Super Bowl champion Hines Ward said on Tiki & Tierney. “I don’t know what the criteria is to be in the Hall. People go by stats, people go by championships – I really don’t know. I just know the eye test proves to me that when I see Julian Edelman in all the big games, I just know he rises to the occasion and makes plays after plays after plays.”

Edelman, 32, has won three Super Bowls with the Patriots and has become Tom Brady’s favorite weapon. Edelman had 26 catches for 388 yards this postseason. No other Patriots receiver had more than five catches or 70 yards, and no other New England pass-catcher had even 200 yards.

Edelman, though, emerged once again as Brady’s security blanket.

“I don’t know really what all goes into it,” Ward reiterated. “You look at Terrell Davis, the short period of time he made it – he made plays. But did he have the longevity as others? No. But during his time and in the big games, he always made plays. To me, that’s what stood out.

“So to be honest, I can’t even ask that question because I don’t know what the criteria is,” Ward continued. “Is it just stats? There’s people that have a lot of stats. Is it all about the rings, or does it matter the most what you did in the playoffs? So I can’t answer that question, to be honest with you.”
