A.J. Hawk did a lot of winning in his football career. He won a national championship at Ohio State, and he won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers.

Hawk played for the Buckeyes in the BCS era and loved the bowl experience, even when he wasn’t playing for a national title.

“I was lucky. I played in the Fiesta Bowl three times,” the former linebacker said on Tiki and Tierney. “The Fiesta Bowl is amazing, they treat you right, it seemed like a big-time game every time we were there – so I loved it. But now obviously with the College Football Playoff system, everything else just goes under the radar now if you’re not in the top four.”

Which is one reason why many fans and analysts advocate for playoff expansion.

“I know this has been going on for a while,” Hawk said. “What do you do? Do you expand? If you do, how may teams? It would be cool if they could expand it. The model that I think could possibly work is if you went to eight teams. Then the top four have a home game and you move on from there. That’d be cool.

“But it doesn’t matter what you do,” Hawk continued. “Nine, 10 and 11, they’re all going to be mad once you expand to eight. Is that the fairest model? Maybe. I don’t know. But life’s not fair. I got four kids, and I have to tell them that every day.”
