Many analysts consider Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins the top quarterback prospects in this year’s NFL Draft, and Matt Mano is no exception. The former NFL scout and current Director of Football & Research for Sports Info Solutions explained – using data – why Murray and Haskins project as NFL starters.

But he also gave his eye-test take on both.

“When I look at Haskins, I look at somebody who’s less of a boom-or-bust prospect,” Mano said on After Hours with Amy Lawrence. “Murray has that it factor where you could really see him being a star. I don’t see that kind of upside with Haskins, but I also see a higher floor. I think there’s a slimmer range of outcomes that you look at with him.”

Haskins has the size, accuracy and arm strength that scouts covet. As for mobility, well, he probably shouldn't challenge Murray to a race.

“Not a very good athlete at all,” Mano said of Haskins. “Not somebody who’s going to be running around a lot, and he’s much better at the get-the-ball-out-of-his-hands quickly throws – short-yardage throws, a West Coast type quarterback, rather than somebody who’s going to get the ball down the field or run around with it a lot. So it’s going to be a particular type of system that he fits in.

“But at the same time, he’s shown a real proficiency in doing those sort of things,” Mano continued. “He shows an ability to understand what the defense is giving him and make good decisions. So I really like both of these guys a lot, especially relative to the other quarterbacks in this draft.”
