After making the playoffs last year for the first time since 2010, the Chicago Bears entered the season with high expectations. Unfortunately for them, Mitchell Trubisky has regressed as a quarterback.

How bad has it been? Bad. Trubisky has thrown for 1,217 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions in seven games, as the Bears (3-5) have lost four straight.

So, how worried should Bears fans be about their quarterback situation?

“You shouldn’t be too worried about it,” former NFL player and current analyst Kirk Morrison said on Reiter Than You. “This season is already over, and next year Cam Newton will be right there for you. If you make the trade for Cam Newton, the Bears’ quarterback situation goes from okay to good really, really fast.”

The Panthers placed Newton on IR on Tuesday, thus ending his season. Newton, 30, played in just two games this year.

“That was huge news for Cam Newton to be put on IR because now it gives the Bears another option,” Morrison said. “Mitch Trubisky, he just got over-drafted. He just doesn’t fit. He doesn’t work within that team. Matt Nagy did not draft him. He’s trying to put a square peg into a round hole, and it’s just not working. So you know what? I get it. Move on from him.”

That might be easier said that done, especially given the number of assets the Bears gave up to draft Trubisky second overall in 2017.

“That’s tough,” Morrison said. “All the draft capital they gave up to get to No. 2, that’s just tough.”

The Bears host the Lions (3-4-1) this Sunday. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET.
