JLC: Brees Could Pass Peyton On All-Time QB List

If Drew Brees wins one more Super Bowl, would his resume outshine Peyton Manning's?

Drew Brees is the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns. He’s also won a Super Bowl and been named Super Bowl MVP.

He’s an all-time great.

But if he wins one more Super Bowl, could he surpass Peyton Manning on the greatest quarterbacks of all time list?

“I think it’s a conversation,” CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora said on Tiki & Tierney. “If he wins two, and let’s be real – he is a surgeon and a tactician and a schemer and adapter at the line of scrimmage in the same way that Peyton was. And I don’t know if he’s ever had quite the cast that Peyton had around him when you’re going from Hall of Fame wide receiver to Hall of Fame wide receiver seamlessly, or Hall of Fame running back to Hall of Fame running back seamlessly. Now you could say that Peyton’s never had a guy like Sean Payton, which obviously is a huge factor for Drew Brees.”

Brees, 40, is a 13-time Pro Bowler, yet (shockingly) never won a regular season MVP award. Manning, who retired in 2015, won five.

“I would say it comes down to how does Drew Brees play in his 40s?” La Canfora said. “When Peyton fell, he fell hard off a cliff. If Drew has a couple seasons like this, or even one more season like this, I would seriously consider it.”

The Saints (11-3), currently the 3-seed in the NFC, end the regular season with road games against the Titans (8-6) and Panthers (5-9). Both games kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
