As the final seconds ticked away in New England’s 21-11 win over Miami on Sunday, Cam Newton got into a scuffle with several Dolphins players, including defensive end Christian Wilkins.

What happened there? And why?

“Me and Cam, we best friends,” Wilkins said tongue-in-cheek on The Zach Gelb Show. “No, just a lot of things happened throughout the course of the game, just a lot of emotions and just energy. It’s the first game of the year, things like that. Little things are going to happen throughout the course of the game or at the end of the game, but that’s in the past now. I’m focused on this next coming week.”

Newton said that several Dolphins players, including Wilkins, tried to pull a chain off of his neck. Wilkins declined to address that.

“Yeah, like I said, I’m focused on this next coming week,” Wilkins said. “Anything that happened after the game, it’s in the past.”

After the game, Newton referred to Wilkins as “a person that’s known for doing splits.” Wilkins did splits after helping Clemson win a national title in January 2017.

“No response,” Wilkins said of Newton’s comment. “It’s all in the past. I got nothing to say about that.”

The Dolphins (0-1) host the Bills (1-0) in Week 2, while the Patriots (1-0) play the Seahawks (1-0) in Seattle. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 and 8:20 p.m. ET, respectively.
