Patrick Mahomes has done some pretty crazy things in the last couple of seasons. Sure, he was named MVP in 2018 and led the Chiefs to the Super Bowl this past season, but some of the individual plays he makes with his arm and his legs? It’s freaky – yet not impromptu.

That’s because Mahomes works on many of these jaw-dropping moves in practice.

“He does. You see him every day in practice, he’s trying new stuff,” Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland said on Tiki & Tierney. “That’s why coaches really feel confident in allowing him to do things in the game because ‘I’m going to show you I can do this in practice before I try to go do this in the games.’ He’s always [working on] his mechanics. That’s what I admire so much about Patrick Mahomes’ game. You really can see how slow the game is [for him] while he’s playing.”

Mahomes led the Chiefs back from double-digit deficits in all three of their playoff games, including a 20-10 fourth-quarter deficit to the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.

Not bad for a former baseball player.

“He’s one of those strange athletes,” Breeland said. “He don’t look like he can move or he can run, but he’ll outrun you. He don’t look like he’ll break this tackle, but he’ll break that tackle. He’s very smart. He knows when to take his shots, he knows when to get down, he knows when to throw the ball away, he knows when to throw it deep and give his guy a play. He’s one of those quarterbacks [who thinks], ‘I’m going to give my guy 50-50 balls and let them go get it.’ He trusts in his arm, he’s a confident quarterback and he bleeds Kansas City Chiefs. I love it.”
