Browns' OBJ Dazzles In Return To MetLife Stadium

OBJ made plenty of headlines for plenty of reasons Monday, from his watch to his visor to his actual play on the field

Odell Beckham Jr. had a fantastic showing in his return to MetLife Stadium, hauling in six catches for 161 yards and a touchdown in a 23-3 win over the Jets on Monday Night Football.

But his apparel choices made as many headlines as his play.

OBJ wore a $2 million watch during pregame warmups. Then, in the first quarter, he was forced to leave the game because his helmet – due to a tint on the visor – didn’t meet NFL standards.

“All of a sudden it became more about the visor than the watch, and then it went from Watchgate to Visorgate,”'s Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot said on After Hours with Amy Lawrence. “I guess he just decided – and maybe Freddie (Kitchens) probably had a conversation with him and said, ‘We’re not going to do anything to take anything away from the team or distract the team.’ That’s my guess – because the Browns had been warned that he couldn’t wear (the watch). So he flashed it around a little bit in pregame warmups, but then when it came time to go out and play the game, he didn’t have it on.”

OBJ was relatively quiet in the first half, but his 89-yard touchdown catch-and-run late in the third quarter made up for it. It also capped the scoring on a night when the Jets were down to third-string quarterback Luke Falk.

“I do think Baker started to get somewhat frustrated in this game. I thought Odell did, too, to a degree,” Cabot said, as the Browns struggled early offensively. “And then comes the big play, and that changed everything. In a game like this, when (the Jets) offense couldn’t do anything, that’s all they really needed.”
