Former MLB All-Star Brandon League pitched in the big leagues for three teams – the Blue Jays, Mariners and Dodgers – over 11 seasons. During that time, he was teammates with Roy Halladay, Felix Hernandez and Clayton Kershaw – and he played with each one in their prime.

Talk about an unreal experience.

“Absolutely,” League said on The DA Show. “I remember having to stay in Florida throughout the offseason just to work out with Roy Halladay. They wanted us to emulate his work ethic, the way he goes about his business, watch him on a day-to-day basis, and I was fortunate enough to be that upcoming prospect to do that. It got a little competitive. We were running sprints and Doc didn’t like to get beat, so he ran a little extra. We would kind of push each other. We had him to where we wanted to be, and he had us to give him that extra step.”

League pitched for the Blue Jays from 2004-09, the Mariners from 2010-12 and the Dodgers from 2012-14. When Halladay, Hernandez and Kershaw were starting, League knew it was going to be a good day.

“Being a bullpen guy, having a front-row seat, we knew we pretty much had the day off that day,” he said. “We’re like, ‘Yeah, they’re not going to need us except maybe the closer.’ Just watching those guys, the way they go about their business on a day-to-day basis – they’re not a relief pitcher where they have to be ready to pitch every day. They still have a routine that they go out and accomplish. It was just fun to watch.”

League was asked which pitcher was the most untouchable at his apex.

“Roy Halladay, you just couldn’t talk to him on his start day,” League said. “He came in with this look, and you knew he was starting that day whether you looked at the schedule or not. Guys just knew that they had no chance.”
