The Cardinals could draft Kyler Murray or trade him for a haul; either way, they have all the leverage, Robert Mays says

Whether the Arizona Cardinals take Kyler Murray with the No. 1 pick remains to be seen, but know this: they hold all the NFL Draft cards.

“I think they’re standing pat because they want the best possible offer, and they want to show teams if you don’t give us what we want, we will take your quarterback,” The Ringer’s Robert Mays said on Reiter Than You. “I think in an ideal scenario, they get a haul for that pick from someone – and if they don’t, they’ll just take him. That’s why they have all the cards here because it’s not as if they have no leverage. They can just take him and figure out the Rosen/Murray thing as it goes. I think that’s why they haven’t been that motivated or that urgent to trade out of it. They know they can stand pat if they don’t get the right offer.”

Still, Arizona – with Kliff Kingsbury – is probably the best fit for Murray.

“If you are looking for a schematic match, that’s probably it,” Mays said. “I don’t think any other teams that need quarterbacks have cushy circumstances surrounding the position. Oakland, Antonio Brown is there, but do we think that Jon Gruden is a particularly attractive quarterback guru in 2019? I don’t necessarily think he is. So I don’t know if there are any teams or situations where you want to be there because for the most part teams that have a nice quarterback infrastructure don’t need a quarterback because they’ve elevated the one they already have.”
