While Kyler Murray seems like a lock to be the first pick in the NFL Draft, Alabama defensive line prospect Quinnen Williams could wind up being the best player in this year’s class.

Indeed, it appears Williams has overtaken Nick Bosa in recent weeks as the top defensive player available. That has nothing to do with Bosa and everything to do with Williams.

“No concerns (about Bosa). I really think this is just a positive about Quinnen,” NFL Network reporter Kim Jones said on Taz & The Moose. “Quinnen Williams is absolutely remarkable. At his weight, to run what became an official 4.83 40 in Indianapolis, the way he moves, the way he’s handled interviews – (it’s remarkable).”

Williams, who won a national title a Alabama, has a maturity beyond his years. When he was 12, he lost his mother to breast cancer.

“His dad, siblings, and grandmother, they all rallied together, but Quinnen took it the hardest,” Jones said. “He spoke beautiful (about how) he believes she’s still watching. He makes decisions (based on), ‘What would mom think of this? What would mom want me to do?’ I’m not saying he’s an angel. But he’s a kid with that in his background. That alone doesn’t make him a great draft pick. Not saying that.

“But when you look at the entire package, he is a remarkable player,” Jones continued, “and I think he’s going to be seen as someone who can instantly change a defense in this league.”
